Oh. Em. Gee. SERIOUSLY OH EM GEE. Most pre-wedding photography tends to be…*ahem* not always full of inspiration, shall we say. It’s often a time when you’re getting to know your wedding photographer before the big day. So it can be a little…contained.
You already know me by now, right? You already know that I just don’t do “contained”. I don’t like to “play it safe”. As far as I’m concerned, your photos should be a reflection of you and personality, however crazy you may be. (For what it’s worth, I’ll be right there with you in the crazy department. It’s one of my favourite places.)
So along come Ifeoma and Massimiliano (Ify and Max, to you and me), with their African and Italian roots, and…well, pun fully intended, blew me out of the water. Their Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort destination wedding was planned for the Saturday, and I stole them for some pre-wedding photography the day before the big day. “Meet me here by this tree, bring your swimming stuff, and prepare to play in the sea.”
Hooooooly moly they did not let me down.
“What should we do?” they asked me.
“You should do what you do best, which I think is, play around and have fun.”
And that’s EXACTLY what they did.
I waded into the sea with them, praying I wouldn’t accidentally dunk my film cameras, whilst Ify’s aunt Jackie watched from the shore. And for the record, it’s pretty awesome and intense photographing whilst their aunt lurks close by…who happens to be Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Munaluchi Bride Magazine. Sooooo NO PRESSURE or anything..!!
This couple nailed it. They literally didn’t give a funk about being in front of the camera – they only had eyes for each other. Pure fun from start to finish, and there was no holding back. I’d have been crazy to not go into the sea with them, so I was immensely thankful that I had taken my underwater housing with me. I’ve said it a million times before, I LOVE adventure, and I WELCOME challenges.
I haven’t had much opportunity to do this, and it’s something I wanted to explore even more. Ify and Max were so incredibly patient with me, whilst I changed rolls of film, and CAREFULLY made sure the cameras didn’t get soaked. I needn’t have panicked (to be fair, I didn’t panic. I was having too much fun to panic). And I think the couple loved the hilarious results – scroll through to see what happened.
I can’t thank my couples enough for trusting me, because it does come down to an immense amount of trust at the end of the day. People want to work with me because I’m laid back, loads of fun, and very relaxed. I want to work with you because you’re all of the above too. And when a team like that comes together?
MASSIVE thanks to Carmencita Film Lab (all images shot on film cameras), my FIND In A Box fam, Jackie Nwobu of Munaluchi Bride for the recommendation and support, and of course, the mind-meltingly gorgeous Ify and Max. You guys are all freaking AWESOME.
Can’t wait to share the full wedding with everyone. xx
