Oh, get yourself a cuppa, because you know I can ramble and post a bajillion photos with the best of ’em.
I’m never any good at finding the right words to posts like these. It’s a bit like, it’s just too epic for words. I never post the photos I think people want to see, I go for the photos which mean something to me, good and/or bad. Some of the meanings are obvious, some I’m betting there’s no obvious clue at all. But every single one of them contributed to a significant memory during my photography shooting in 2014.
I’ve gone from dabbling in film with rubbishy cameras, to being fully fledged digital/film hybrid. And that’s set to go further for 2015 (yes, I’m seriously considering ditching digital in most areas). That, in itself, has been alarmingly awesome and overwhelming. And the many, many people and companies who have helped me along the way (there are too many to mention, and I suspect I will miss someone out), I cannot thank you enough. If I can ever return the favour someday, I hope to do so.
I’ve gone from wondering if I’ll ever shoot another wedding overseas (since shooting in Jersey in 2011) to shooting Sonnenalm Kampenwand Hochzeitsfotografie – a wedding in the Bavarian hills (thank you Siegrid for the BEST. REFERRAL. EVER.) and another Germany booking for 2015 (can’t wait to see you again Cate!). I’ve travelled and taken my film camera(s), and loved every minute. I’ve been terrified and super excited, all at the same time. I’ve hit the bottom with self doubt, wondering why the hell people are booking me. I’ve soared to the top and literally fallen in love with my clients and “colleagues”, the most inspirational people I am lucky to come across and work with.
It’s been a year of a completely new brand (I LOVE YOU PETE!!!!!), unicorns, weird shit on Pinterest, weird shit at weddings, awesome stuff at weddings, dragons, image awards, beaver faces, a badger, family deaths, family births, photographing home births, cello in the woods, a bride on a bike, drunk people, drunk clients, Heart West Midlands celebs, leather strap ons, tattoos, double baked naked cheesecake, pig, cow, cat, bull, film reels, broken cars, kick-ass cars, air miles, bare bottoms, film labs, things on boobs, and more. There have been German weddings, Hindu weddings, Chinese weddings, Sikh weddings, and more. I have no idea how many UK miles I’ve clocked up (I should really tot that up now…), and it was ace to have my assistant sidekick Charlotte for the last part of it.
I’m doing this in two parts, because I’m royally crap at just selecting a small number of photos. There’s no particular order, there’s no rhyme and/or reason. It’s just, well. It’s just my kinda awesome.
