You know what doesn’t happen nearly enough in the UK? Paddling pool fun.
I mean let’s face it – UK weather stinks. Summer lasts for maybe one or two weeks of the entire year. One of those weeks is in April (seriously, wtf), and the other is anyone’s guess. Maybe June, possibly July, or just to keep you on your toes, split over 2 weeks in August. For me to spend approximately one hour filling a paddling pool, the weather needs to be (realistically) warm enough to run around outside, naked and wet.
For the kiddos, obviously, because there’s no WAY I’m doing that, unless it’s the middle of the night. And warm enough.
One of the things I LOVED about this summer, was playing. I played a LOT this year. People keep asking me “how the hell do you have time to do so many fun things?” All I can think is “How do you NOT have time to do so many fun things??” Spending the week photographing my couple in Thailand was a firm reminder that I need to play. Not just for creativity, but also, for my sanity.
It’s when I learn to use new cameras, learn new skills, spend time with my kiddos, be a kid again, de-stress – become more human. So that’s what I did when he had that one hot day sometime in July. I can’t remember which day it was; I just remember it being hot enough to sit on the grass in skimpy shorts, whilst The Smalls had their fun in the paddling pool.
Can’t wait until next “summer”.
